I love it! Highly recommend! Layout decisions taken care of my build should be a breeze. I like the YouTube videos.
When I received the kit the first thing that I did was inspect for damage to the drum. There was no damage what so ever to the drum it was in perfect condition.
I was amazed at the weight of the drum and all the parts that were inside. This kit was first class in fabrication and went together very nicely with the aid of the beautiful template that was furnished. The extra cost for the low profile cart was well worth the money as it rolls easily even with the weight of the UDS. I spent several weeks weighing all the other companies drum smoker kits and settled on SmokerBuilder and I am glad that I did.
Frank and Tom were easy to talk to and answered all my questions. If anyone is looking to build a UDS you can't go wrong with their kits. Will send picture when I finish painting it. To say that I am well satisfied is an understatement.
Thanks SmokerBuilder. Wow, amazing quality parts for an UDS. Excellent customer service. Frank called me and discussed different shipping options. As makers of the best gravity feed smoker around, we feel particularly qualified to answer this one, so keep reading for a quick guide to what gravity smoking is and how it works. Gravity smokers put gravity to work in a different way, automatically meting out charcoal heat to keep temperatures controlled without the need for constant babysitting.
This feature makes gravity feed smokers an ideal choice on the competition circuit, as well as a top pick for home enthusiasts. Okay, so now you know what it does, but how does a gravity feed smoker work in the first place?
High-end gravity smokers like ours can burn for as long as 16 hours at a time, and require about one half pound to one pound of charcoal for hour.
You can use lump coal or briquettes, and you can even mix it up with wood chunks too to add more depth of flavor. Other than the chamber where the smoking itself happens, another key feature of the gravity feed smoker is the firebox. This is where the magic happens, with heat and smoke transferred from hopper to the bottom of the cook chamber, where they rise evenly and upwards to cook the meat. This bottom-up smoking method helps circulate heat in a controlled motion, in turn ensuring that heat stays constant throughout the cook time.
While not all gravity feed smokers feature it, we like to include a water pan as well. This adds another controlled element to the smoke that helps balance out the heat.
It also brings more moisture into the equation, which results in more tender meat. There are a few other notable features as well, including the option for an internal, built-in temperature probe and an exhaust chimney with a damper to prevent condensation from dripping on to your food. What do you get when all of these features come together?
Our gravity feed smoker is designed to do more, with every minute of cook-time optimized for a truly delicious end product. If you want to learn more about how it all works, reach out to our team by phone or email, or come visit us in person.

The PG was a lot to spend, but I love it. I have always admired the gravity feed smokers from afar. I have always wondered what they were like, especially since I see a lot of cooks using them now. For example, can you just burn wood and not charcoal in a gravity feed? All the ones I have looked at online have been very pricey. So please sound off with any gravity feed smoker experiences. I am trying to determine if I should consider one, and if so how much its going to cost me.
You cannot burn wood in a gravity fed. They are designed to use either lump, or briquettes. In my opinion, gravity feeds are what many teams seem to be moving towards. They are extremely efficient and easy to use once you get the hang of it. Superior has halted production for the foreseeable future from what I hear. Also, Humphrey's makes a gravity feed but I'm not familiar with those. A few teams around here have moved to them though. I see Myron Mixon makes a gravity fed now as well but you are really just paying for a name.
His smoker looks cheap to me but I have not seen it in person. Really, everyone has pretty much just copied Stumps design so I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.We noticed that you're using an ad-blocker, which could block some critical website features.
